## _About the Unit_
UChicago Dining is a new department formed to administer all foodservice contracts between campus entities (clients) and the University. It serves as communications conduit between contractor and client, and as the primary contact for all "One Card" dining initiatives and dining program maintenance. UChicago Dining coordinates all proposed feasibility analysis, remodeling and new projects in conjunction with Facilities Services, the Campus Architect, Procurement, and client organizations. The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of the work being performed by the person assigned to this job. This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities associated with the Assistant Director for Dining Operations and Services position.
## _**Job Information**_
**Job Summary:**
This position will report to the Director (Operations and Services) and will be responsible for marketing, communications, relationship management, project management, student engagement, and special programs and initiatives. The Assistant Director for Dining Operations and Services will also assist the Director (Operations and Services) in analyzing anecdotal and customer feedback performance data on the quality of food service in order to ensure there is continuous improvement in processes and programs. The Assistant Director for Dining Operations and Services will work with the Director (Operations and Services) to assist the vendor in refining food concepts including menu selections from year to year.
**Responsibilities:**
* Serve as the relationship manager for campus partners across the university including, academic deans, deans of students, staff and faculty to help maintain and build university-wide support for dining on campus.
* Oversee, manage, and maintain the UChicago Dining web site and create a comprehensive annual website planning document for the department. Always keep the information on the Dining web site current.
* Manage the social media experience for UChicago Dining, increase number of followers on Instagram, and incorporate video into social media.
* Provide strategic planning and direction for marketing and social media strategy as well as brand identity which increases brand trust, loyalty, and sales growth. Serve as the Marketing liaison for UChicago Dining between 3C (Chicago Creative Communications), and the vendor.
* Maintain UChicago Dining's feedback loop and continual evaluation of the department's customer service standards. Oversee all communications for the department, including student outreach, parent communication and media requests.
* Assist in providing strategic direction for retail dining on campus, including concept development, menu creation, and sales analysis.
* Oversee processes and direction of the department's response to guests with allergies, including working directly with student disabilities services, legal counsel, and our food service vendor in order to create, monitor, and maintain a university allergy policy.
* Work directly with the Chicago Rabbinical Council, Hillel House, Chabad and the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council to provide students with dining tailored towards their religious requirements.
* Create and execute events with student groups and campus partners for UChicago Dining's guests, including cultural celebrations, bi-weekly dinners, and multi-faceted activities.
* Lead Orientation Dining during Orientation Week including event planning, menu development, coordinating all residential meals, parent meals, receptions, and high profile campus events.
* Coordinate summer conference dining and ensure successful execution of the summer conference dining program.
* Assist the Director (Operations and Services) in creating a vibrant and culinary diverse dining program that fosters community throughout the campus.
* Assist the Director (Operations and Services) in the assessment and development of meal plans which provide portability and flexibility for students, faculty and staff.
* Assist the Director (Operations and Services) in ensuring that the UChicago dining operations maintain the sense of belonging between various academic units, schools, and divisions throughout the campus.
* Assist the Director (Operations and Services) in ensuring that the dining vendor participates in and supports all University diversity, social justice, and sustainability initiatives.
* Assist the Director (Operations and Services) in the establishment of programmatic benchmarks, goals and objectives for the vendor.
* Serve on the Campus Dining Advisory Board with the Director of Dining (Operations and Services) and the Director of Dining (Finance and Administration).
* Keep well-informed and current on new concepts, practices, and trends in food service technology as they relate to institutions of higher education.
**Competencies:**
* Demonstrated understanding of the developmental objectives of the college student residential environment required.
* Demonstrated knowledge of proficient customer service skills.
* Excellent multi-tasking skills. Ability to work on multiple(non-connected) projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
* Knowledge of the University of Chicago, or the higher education field.
* Proficiency with Windows based computers, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook).
* Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
* Excellent organizing skills, detail oriented, focused, and proficient in time management.
* Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, yet a team player.
## _Additional Requirements_
**Education Experience or Certifications:**
**Education:**
* B.A. Degree in Marketing, Culinary, Communications, Hospitality, or related field required
* M.A. Degree in Marketing, Culinary, Communications, Hospitality, or related field is preferred
**Experience:**
* At least five (5) years of direct multi-unit food service marketing (residential, retail, catering) and operational management experience.
* At least two (2) years of applicable Catering experience preferred.
* Having a culinary background is preferred.
* Proven knowledge of food trends with a focus on quality, customer service, marketing, production, programming, public relations, and presentations.
* Significant marketing, communication, and culinary skills and proficiency.
* Demonstrated understanding of campus dining programs.
* Competent in all features and interfacing of Social Media.
* Flexibility in working hours.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Ability to analyze problems and resources and initiate programs designed for improved productivity.
* Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* Well organized, detail oriented, focused, and timely on project completions.
**Licenses and Certification:**
* ServSafe® certified (Current)
* American Marketing Association Professional Certified Marketer (PCM®) (Preferred)
**Technical Knowledge of Skills:**
* Strong computer skills including knowledge of spreadsheets and database applications.
* Experience with client/PC workstation applications.
* Proficiency with Windows based computers, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook) required.

**Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:**
* Eating at the various dining venues of UChicago Dining is a requirement of this position. The Assistant Director for Dining Operations and Services will be provided a meal plan that will enable s.e to be part of the team that ensures that the dining vendor is in compliance with contract expectations and is attaining the quality standards expected by the campus.
* Ability to bend, crouch, or sit.
* Ability to stand, sit, or walk for 4 hours or more.
* This position requires quite a bit of walking to assess the dining operations at venues across campus.
