## Description
**HOURS FOR THIS POSITION ARE: SUNDAY - THURSDAY 11 PM-7:30 AM**
* **SUMMARY**
* Performs and coordinates under the direction of the Manufacturing Manager, the staffing, training and general operations related to Product Mfg. The Lead Production Specialist assists in assuring that the department is in compliance with SOPs, regulatory agencies, cGMP and safety guidelines. This position demonstrates a superior level of knowledge and problem solving skills. Participates in the departmental on-call rotation.
**MAJOR ACTIVITY **
* ** ASSISTS THE MANAGER BY PROVIDING WORK DIRECTION**
* Monitors changes of staffing assignments/schedules for technicians for effective time allocation.
* Directs staff to consistently meet daily production goal.
* Distinguishes between high and low priority tasks addressing high priority tasks first and eliminating tasks that contribute least to organizational goals.
* Monitors staff compliance with LifeSource SOPs and regulatory agencies.
* Provides coaching/counseling for staff as needed.
* Monitors the performance and productivity of staff implementing immediate corrective action/retraining actions regarding employee misconduct (e.g., repeated tardiness, lower and/or poor productivity, absenteeism, lack of team work, poor customer service, etc.) under the direction of the manager.
* Assists manager in analysis of Production Specialist's job performance rating for probationary and annual reviews.
* Implements and verifies compliance with new and current procedures and policies with assigned staff.
* Initiates changes when necessary to ensure congruency between procedure and practice.
* Assists in developing process improvement initiatives.
* Pro-active in identification of potential problems avoiding time traps and valuable human resources to adhere to budget requirements.
**MAJOR ACTIVITY**
* ** MONITORS EQUIPMENT, COORDINATES DAILY OPERATIONS, INVESTIGATES AND RESOLVES PROBLEMS**
* Direct emergency follow-up procedures for equipment failure/repair (e.g., refrigerator, platelet incubators, freezers, etc.) to ensure proper care and/or storage are arranged for products to prevent loss.
* Performs and reviews specialized equipment QC.
* Perform routine lab procedures (e.g., component processing, labeling, as indicated by the performance requirements of a Production Specialist.
* Oversees the quality control checks for equipment to ensure the equipment is maintained and documentation of QC information is complete on a daily basis.
* Monitors compliance with safety procedures as identified by summary of employee exposures and implementation of testing and notification procedures.
* Assures laboratory facilities are clean and free from debris and clutter.
* Participates in investigation and corrective action for missing products as required by regulatory agencies.
* Must demonstrate a strong functional knowledge of the Lab Information System (LIS), and be able to display the application of these skills.
**MAJOR ACTIVITY**
* ** ENSURES THAT ALL PROCEDURES ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH REQUIRED POLICIES AND REGULATIONS**
* Monitors and reviews records and work performance within the department for completeness, accuracy, compliance with SOPs and cGMP.
* Assists in writing, revising and implementing SOPs and assuring they are current.
* Performs integral audits of forms. SOPs, labels, and related material to assure they are current.
* Monitors and inspects solutions and reagents to assure they are in date.
**MAJOR ACTIVITY**
* **PROVIDES QUALITY CUSTOMER SERVICE TO EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL CUSTOMERS**
* Professionally communicates with external and/or internal contacts in a manner which promotes LIfeSource's image and responsibilities.
* Works in a cooperative manner with peers, supervisors, associated LifeSource staff and hospital personnel.
* Maintains a positive focus to solving problems, which is observable in tone of voice, body language and conversation.
* Solicits and clarifies information to ensure understanding and avoiding costly errors that may affect patient care.
* Promotes a "team spirit" through both verbal and non-verbal actions, which support departmental projects, and companywide redirection/changes through participation in accordance with ITxM requirements.
* Assists other divisional staff as needed.
* Follows departmental chain of command when addressing employee problems, concerns or assignments.
**MAJOR ACTIVITY**
* ** INVENTORY CONTROL**
* Monitor availability of product labels to assure adequate supplies are available.
* Completes requisition for all internal orders as needed.
* Completes requisition for all external orders in a timely manner to assure availability of critical supplies.
* Forwards applicable orders to manager for signature.
**MAJOR ACTIVITY**
* ** PERFORMS VALIDATIONS**
* Validates new equipment including centrifuges, environmental chambers, freezers and sealers.
* Performs requalification on existing equipment after major repairs to assure equipment is suitable for use.
* Responsible for completing "Out of Service" and services dates on equipment log.
* Assists in development of new processes and equipment.
* Validates new procedures and new products.

## Qualifications
* **KEY MEASURES**
* Demonstrates organizational and time management skills to allow for high productivity.
* Demonstrates the ability to clearly define a problem, identify and choose the appropriate SOP or reporting structure to resolve the problem; able to resolve problems without assistance.
* Assures inventory requirements are met in a timely manner.
* Assures equipment maintenance, QC, and validation/re-qualification are performed as required.
* **EDUCATION/TRAINING**
* High School diploma or equivalent
* BS degree, MT or MLT preferred or equivalent work experience.
* Healthcare training preferred.
* Knowledge of cGMP's.
* **WORK EXPERIENCE**
* 1 year in a Blood Center, Blood Bank or healthcare field required but 3 is preferred.
* Familiar with lab computer system.
* **REQUIRED SKILLs**

* **DONOR EXPERIENCE**
* Language skills must include the ability to read, write and speak English effectively and follow oral and written instructions consistent with policies and procedure, SOPs or other requirements.
* Strong communication skills (oral and written) and interactive skills are mandatory.

* Must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently especially when on call to assure special orders are processed per special request within strict time frames.
* **SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT**
* Provides direction and support to production Specialists toward common objectives, teamwork.

* **PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT**
* The employee will be required to spend the majority of the workday standing, walking, talking, hearing, using hands and reaching. There is a small amount of sitting and stooping.
* Required to lift up to 50 pounds.
* There is repetitive motion of breaking cannulas, scanning, and computer data entry.
* The employee must be able to have close vision and distinguish colors such as yellow, red, brown and white.
* More than 2/3 of the time, the position requires exposure to blood or blood products.
* OSHA Category I: position whose task/duties will put them at risk for exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials, therefore, universal/standard precautions required.
* There is freezer exposure(-18 or colder) and refrigerator exposure (1-6) 1/3 of the time.
* Technicians work near moving parts, load equipment noise, bio-hazardous materials, airborne particles and the risk of electrical shock.
